Active Isolated Stretch is a dynamic facilitated stretch method that helps your body function better with less injury. Active Isolated stretch targets individual muscles or groups of muscles with short 2 second stretches. This allows the muscles to lengthen with out triggering the protective stretch reflex. The protective stretch reflex sends a signal to your muscles to contract against the stretch. By using a short stretch duration with repetition, the muscles can lengthen much more so than with a steady continuous stretch. With out activating the protective stretch reflex you can achieve more range of motion and flexibility.
Active Isolated Stretch may be incorporated into your session, talk to your therapist during your consultation before the massage.
